I can't believe it's the last day of July. I go back to work tomorrow. Just for three days, but I can't believe it's time for me to go back already. The time has just flown by. Jay will be three months old on Tuesday and it doesn't feel that he should be that old! I am always amazed at what he can do and all of the smiles we can get out of him. He is a wonderful addition to our family!
I am looking forward to being done with work. I love to spend my time with Jay and am looking forward to continue to watching him grow! I am still looking for a medical transcription position to help with finances. I know everything will work out! For now, I am very happy with where my life is and am happy to know we have the support of both of our families and our friends!

Meeting Family
This last weekend we made a whirlwind trip to eastern Iowa. Jason didn't get off of work until 7pm, so we got a late start Friday night. The plan was to get to Miles around 11:30 that night. Unfortunately, once we hit Tama, it started to rain and lightning. Lots of lightning. Enough so that we decided to stay in Olin overnight.
We pushed on to Miles the next morning with some sweet corn from Olin in tow. We met up with Grandma Rosie, Grandpa Bubby, Jamie and Allegra at Pizza Ranch for supper. We left Miles the Sunday afternoon and stopped in Olin to pick up our basket we left for them to use. After some holding of the baby and packing up some sweet corn for ourselves (Thanks!), we headed back to Ames and the comfort of our own home.
It was a splendid weekend and I am very thankful Jay was able to meet more of his great-grandparents. We were able to spend some time with Jasper and Mason since Jamie and her three went to Mom and Dad's. There wasn't enough time to visit everyone, and it was hot, sticky and cloudy most of the weekend. No swimming in Mom and Dad's pool for us! There was lots of holding and snuggles though. Jay is very lucky to have such a wonderful family who loves him very much!
We found out that Jay likes to direct songs. We watched the "Music Man" and he had a blast. Mom helped him with his directing. (The video is dark because of where they were sitting in the living room.)

Welcome Back!
Our friends Jeff and Micheal are back from Spain, permanently. Jason picked them up in Des Moines and stopped by the house before driving them up to Mason City. We are very happy to have them closer to us once again. They did say they will be visiting people during this week and next since they have been gone for six years. We very happy to have them back!

Official
It's official. Thursday I went in to talk to my supervisor. My last day at Iowa State is August 3rd. Jason and I had talked about me going back to work for a long time. We got information about the day cares in Ames and it turns out, my entire paycheck would go to pay for Jay's daycare. That doesn't really work for us. So we decided I should stay at home instead. I am still working for a medical transcription job that I can do at home, but haven't had any luck yet. I am working three days in August to pay for our insurance for the summer. (Since I don't work during the summer, HR takes the extra money out in our first few paychecks.) We should also have insurance through the end of August. My supervisor was excited or me and said she understood, especially when I told her the minimum amounts for the different day cares. (We don't have a Y in Ames, much to our dismay.)
I'm very excited to be able to stay home. I would like to have had an at home job lined up, but I know everything will work out. Besides, who can resist such a cutie!

Vacation
We took our first family vacation last week. We traveled all the way up to Potato Lake in Minnesota (up by Bimiji). Jay traveled rather well for the seven hour drive there. We left late morning on Thursday and arrived at the cabin around 6pm. Our friend Pat was there with his girlfriend, Manni and her little girl, Breann. (Pat's step-dad owns the cabin.) Our friend Adam rode up with us. We did get into the lake and swim for a little bit Thursday night.
Matt, Tabitha, and Tabitha's kids, Zoe and Austin, arrived very early Friday morning. On Friday, we spent time in the boat tubing, riding and some of us went swimming. We did quite a bit of the same on Saturday. We watched some movies and the boys played the board game Axis and Allies. (A WWII game.) Saturday night we also had a bonfire where Manni and Breann had s'mores for the first time. Manni said they were much better than the cereal.
Sunday we spent the morning out on the lake again. Most of us left shortly after lunch to go home. Pat, Manni and Breann stayed to clean up the cabin a little, but were leaving very early Monday morning.
Jay did pretty well on the car ride home. He didn't sleep as much, but we all made it home. We spent today recovering from vacation. Jay and I slept most of the morning. We started doing some laundry, but it will take a couple of days to get caught up on that. We also went for a walk, regardless that it was still pretty warm and very sticky out.
We're very glad we were able to go on vacation and that we were able to spend time with our friends.

Happy Fourth
Yesterday was the Fourth of July. Jason's parents came down to visit, but mostly play/hold Jay. We went for a walk at Ada Hayden. It was a pretty nice day. The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze. Jason's parents left before supper, but Adam came over to eat with us. We opted to not go to fireworks seeing as Jay is quite little yet and we didn't know how he would react. We watched a movie before Adam went home. It was a nice, relaxing day. I do think Jay has come down with a slight cold. He slept for 7 hours last night and has been sleeping for the last two. He sounds fairly congested. Hopefully he'll get over it quickly.

Welcome July
It has been quite hot and oppressive here in Ames in the last few days. Jay and I have been lucky enough to be inside for most of it. Yesterday Jay and I had to ride the bus to pick up the Pacifica, which was being worked on. We had to wait outside for the bus to show up and had to walk a little bit to get to the car place where the Pacifica was.
Not too long afterwards, Jay and I had to go to the doctor for Jay's after hospital check-up. I felt bad since it was the second time I had to wake Jay from a nap to take him somewhere. Once we got home from the doctor, he did take almost a three hour nap.
Today I ran errands, and while it was pretty nice when I started, it was quite warm and sticky by the time I got home. Granted, it was almost noon by the time I got back, but it was still hot.
Monday, we are going to attempt to go to the city's free pancake breakfast and the fourth of July parade. I'm not sure how hot or humid it's supposed to be on Monday, it will be quite an adventure though.
