Cousins

While they might not be identical, Jay met his cousin Allegra, who is two days older than him, and cousins Jasper and Mason. He also met GREAT great-aunts Sara and Ann and aunt Jamie. Jay and I made a trek to Sara's house to meet some of our family.
We had a wonderful time. Jay was held by everyone except Allegra, obviously, and did pretty well. He did get a little fussy, but I think it was from being over tired or hungry. We did get a lot of pictures! I'm having trouble uploading them to the blog, but check them out on DropShots.

I was fortunate enough that my friend, Adam, agreed to come along. He was a life saver on the way there and back by feeding Jay when he got hungry and entertaining him. It would have taken a much longer time and I would have had an extremely purple from crying baby had Adam not been there to help. Of course, each time Jay wanted to eat, we weren't anywhere near a town to stop in. Adam also played Candy Land with the boys and Grandpa. Grandpa won and Adam came in second.

We got back to Ames around 6. Jay was fussy and slept for a little bit, but woke up shortly after Jason got home. We fed him again around 8 and he fell asleep. As of when I'm typing this, he's been asleep for almost two hours. He was a tired little boy.

Home Sweet Home

Jay was discharged from the hospital today! Before he was discharged, he had to eat some full strength formula with rice cereal and not vomit. He did very well, but still spit up. Especially when we were getting him ready to go home. I was a little worried they weren't going to let us leave, but we chalked it up to all the movement of changing him and getting him ready to go home. He's been a pretty happy baby since we've been home. He eats really well, still and has taken a couple of naps. He is on his antacid for 30 days, and then we'll re-evaluate the situation. Since Jay lost weight while in the hospital, he has an appointment Friday afternoon to make sure he is gaining weight at home.
Needless to say, we are extremely happy to be home and that Jay is healthy and happy. Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers!

Hospital: Day 2

So Jay was put on partially digested formula last night, which smelled horrible! He couldn't keep that down either so it was back to the Pedialyte. He slept most of the night, so when I fed him at 8:30 this morning, he couldn't keep the Pedialyte down either. They came and took some blood for an electrolyte count. The on-call pediatrician came in (Dr. Halbur) and we asked about acid reflux. She thought that was a good idea to try and treat for it. He is now on an antacid and getting diluted formula with rice cereal. The new food seems to slow down his eating a little bit, but has also helped with the vomiting, so far. They turned down his IV down so he would be more hungry. He falls asleep shortly after he eats, but when he wakes up again, he is hungry! He starts crying like we're starving him, which we are not.
We received a blanket upon our admission to the hospital from www.projectlinus.org. It is an organization that makes and donates blankets to the pediatrics wings to hospitals. His new blanket has monkeys on it, which look just like the monkeys on the blanket we brought with us. It a nice flannel blanket which covers both Jay and me when we're sitting in the recliner. (That's why I've been choosing monkey backgrounds!) I'm hoping to be able to return the favor by making some blankets for them as well. Of course, I need some time and to get other projects done first.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers! We're hoping to be able to go home tomorrow, but I'll keep everyone posted!
